“I’ve spent several mornings looking at the embedded figurines, trying to locate a pattern. Often, I fantasize about what they will have to say, if they came to life – to me and to each other. Was this pattern created or just superimposed on them? Did they live full, independent lives, or just enacted predetermined roles?”

“That’s quite a lot for idling away your mornings, when you could have done something more productive.”

“Yes, I go back to my desk after that. The result of these musings is an award-winning novel.”

  1. At first I wondered what she was staring at, seeing figurines. And then I thought that perhaps, like my chacter, she is seeing human forms in the wrinkles in the rock. Either way, it is definitely going against the grain these days, to take any time to relax the mind and let it wander. Perhaps we circumvent such musings at our peril.
