My hair is done, makeup looks perfect …. I smile with satisfaction, as I step into my designer gown.

I hope the evening is perfect. I need posh do’s to gloss over the fact that the year was a disaster. After all, it will be washed away in the expensive alcohol we consume tonight. The face that I present will be out there on social media, for people to remember, and secretly envy my privileged existence.

I will be a diva for a night.

I hope the next year brings better luck ….  or more anaesthetics to numb the pain.
