Parting shots

I fervently pray for time to stop, but know that it will not.

The part of me I leave behind will be forgotten by those I care about today. It will claim its space in the subconscious –  netherlands of existence – that is where it is destined to remain. I was naïve to see myself as the cat’s whiskers.

A stray dog comes and lies down next to me. I pat his head affectionately, and idly wonder – does he know that we will not meet again?

The cab arrives and I get in. The future awaits, and growing up is non-negotiable.
