Jugaad

“Amazing! This contraption does function.” The Inspector of Schools exclaimed.

The teacher looked apologetic.

“Sir, we do not have a well-equipped lab. The children make use of whatever is available to execute their ideas.”

“You will now ask for a grant. But I am nominating this student for a scholarship in recycling research. I am a great fan of the Indian art of Jugaad.”

P.S.

Jugaad is a colloquial Hindi word, which has various meanings depending on the situation. Roughly translated, jugaad is a “hack.”[1] It could also refer to an innovative fix or a simple work-around, a solution that bends the rules, or a resource that can be used in such a way. It is also often used to signify creativity: to make existing things work, or to create new things with meager resources.
