“I rarely receive a sealed envelope now, which is not a communication from a company whose shares I hold. Snail mail has long since given way to faster and modern communication platforms…..”
I saw a hand being raised in the audience, “Sir, I have been searching for years, for a kind soul which used to leave sweets for me in the mailbox, in my not-so-prosperous childhood, but all search engines have failed to take me to the person.”
“What is the point that you are driving at?”
“Our insecurity has led us to install security systems and identifiers, but the beauty of anonymity, and the mystique of anticipation has been lost.”
I am ashamed to admit that my thoughts drifted to the anonymous sender of red roses in my youth.

I have thought of how video doorbells have taken away the ability to be a “secret Santa” or to leave goodies on a neighbor’s doorstep anonymously.

We used to leave treats for the mailman in the box. Probably can’t do that anymore.

We don’t have the regular mailman around anymore. Delivery boys for online shopping keep changing. 😊

Kind of a bittersweet commentary. So true that, while technology has brought us many conveniences and instant gratification, it also has removed some of the “mystery”.

You’ve captured today’s society. Most of my snail mail is junk mail. How many insurance policies does one need? Yikes!

You have written some very true statements in your SSS.
