Flash of a second

It is not a safe hour for a woman to be walking alone. Perhaps, she worked in graveyard shifts, and is used to the shadowy figures lurking outside. I am curious, but resist the temptation of talking. She is busy with her phone.

I see her gesticulating wildly, asking me to get out. I do the same on impulse and watch the station being blown up. I pull out my phone to call the police, when a message draws my attention.

β€œI was hired to be a suicide bomber. My family will be taken care of with the money. Choosing this time is the least that I could to save lives. What are you doing here at this hour?”

OMG! The sender is Amla. How could I not recognise her in that uniform? The cell phone perhaps held a trigger. I wish I had shown the courage to talk to her. It might have saved ….. who and what? Does it make a difference now?

  1. Wow! Great story. Interesting that the woman at the bottom of the escalator is the natural focus and all three stories (so far) put her in real or perceived danger.
