Shadows we cast

“We raised this young man to be our prototype. I don’t know when he turned into a distorted version of our lowest self…”

“Let’s confess that our approach was  wrong. He is an individual in his own right.” My wife was dejected, but fiercely defended her son, like mothers do.  “I see that our basest side on display during our quarrels, has funnelled deep into his psyche leaving indelible impressions. At this juncture, we need to be on the same page in our parental roles.”

I confess to being deeply disturbed at the arrest of our only son.

“Really? I remember the night you pulled a gun on me. Today, Steve has been held for doing the same with his girlfriend.”

She had not forgotten or forgiven. Wounds were deep, even if the scars were well concealed. The shadows existed in more places than one, and were catching up fast.
