I read somewhere that walking on the same track every day does nothing for the mind. One needs to change routes, or learn dance routines where one has to remember steps. It helps in preventing dementia.
I think about the ideas that originated while walking. Creativity receives a boost, when one does not stress about the next step to be taken. Does that not count as mental activity?
I move in circles on predetermined paths, but take off at tangents
dark clouds and trees
whirring past at speed of thought
the evening beckons

I definitely think that the same path generates thought. I don’t have to keep my mind on the path. I can be anywhere I want to be. Lovely thoughts on walking’s rewards, Reena.

Other than thoughts, we find those things that relax us — nature, kids or dogs for example. Thank you so much, Sarah!

I really like the pairing of your photos to this thought-provoking piece. I remember I had a perfectly square route for a walk that I repeated almost daily. It became so automatic, but definitely put me in a creative mode.

I have multiple paths for my walks, but I repeat some to get seasonal changes.

That is intensifying experience on the same path ☺

I so wonder if walking the same path is really the same… every path is different to me if walked at a different time or in different weather… but we still need to go off with tangent every once in a while and widen the circles.
