Eerie

“Can you imagine I started my business in this room? I feature in the Fortune 500 list today.”

“Your achievements have been lauded by the media. The drooping blades of this ceiling fan tell a different story.”

“It could be the humidity and moisture. My office is now located in a prime business location.”

“The blades represent what you left behind. Your mother still lives in this house, and cannot walk straight.”

The business magnate was speechless, for the first time in his life. He walked inside with heavy footsteps.

“Mom, I’m back.”

An eerie silence pervaded the room. Death?

  1. Wow. This is one of those “stop and think” stories. It may have been even more effective if you’d left out that final word, leaving us to imagine our own endings.

    1. They treat the journey as a badge of honor. I come across several talks and reality shows, where participants do not hesitate from exposing their family’s unfortunate circumstances to glorify their own journey.
