I Wish

I wished for a loving wife fully devoted to me and the family, and perhaps, it was this desire that drove us both round the bend.

Your brilliance could not be contained in a small home. You were born to fulfil a larger life purpose. We appreciated your talents, but still, obstinately wished that you confine yourself to our joint life. We were asking for too much. It was not meant to happen.

I read about your achievements today, and take pride that you were once a part of my life. I dare not use the words ‘belonged to me’. You never did. I chose to play power games, when I could have been a partner in your journey.

I wish I had taken you only as you are. I wish you know that I am with you in spirit, and being with you has transformed me as an individual.

      1. When he mentioned “family,” I didn’t know if they already had one or not. Having children can definitely complicate following one’s own dreams.

        1. Yes. In India, we also have young couples staying with parents and siblings. The wife is expected to meet family expectations in various roles as daughter-in-law, sis-in-law etc. Not a fertile ground for peace.
