Borrowed Skin

I live in a skin which is not mine. It is neither borrowed nor stolen. It is imposed by expectations of others. I try my best to do justice to the role, but keep chaffing under the burden.

I long to be myself, but the price to be paid for freedom could be high. I am not sure, if I can pull it off either. There are voices crowing in my ear, which say that I cannot and dare not.

I continue doing whatever I’m expected to do, and anticipate rewards which never come.

shivering existence

cacophony surrounds

ethereal me
