The Fallen Pharaoh

His appearance was unkempt, with a faraway look in his eyes, as if he did not belong. It was the prison guard who told me his real identity.

I looked again. Did I see a tinge of regret or repentance? Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Students of Shakespearean literature would have seen many characters reflected in those haunting eyes. The industrialist and politician was a pale shadow of his former glory.

Karma is a bitch! One never knows when it lifts, or drops with a thud. I left The Fallen Pharaoh alone, and walked out with heavy footsteps.

    1. I will make an effort to explain as much as I can. Shakespeare has painted eminent achievers like Othello who fall prey to weaknesses. The narratot has heavy footsteps because he is seeing the downgradation of an eminent personality.
