The room looked as if a tornado had passed through it. It was high time that he informed the police. His kleptomaniac ex-wife had not stopped visiting the house. All the trouble that he had gone through to get a divorce, appeared to have been wasted.
Suddenly, he noticed that his son was not on the bed. The door to the shower was open, but nobody was in there. The window was open.
The device screen on the bed was blinking “Are you ready?” He had been unable to save his son from The Blue Whale of depression and death.

This is the second story about Blue Whale, something I’d never heard of before. Horrible and unbearably sad.

I had to read the comments to see what this story was about. I don’t have children, but I know children are SO much at-risk anymore. it was bad enough when I was growing up, now they have more than we did and it’s getting really dangerous out there.
Nice take on the prompt, Reena.

Thank you so much! I don’t have children either, but children have a way of belonging to all who care and love them. They are the future.

Having an eye on the hours they keep should be an indicator. And beware of unexplained tattoos and injury marks.

Blue Whale nips another bud. The Mumbai boy who was the target of this sinister game was from had a perfect family and good academic record.
Sad that youth are being rocked by outside influences.

Somehow it’s starting to feel that people have stopped thinking if all it takes is a game to commit suicide

Children are too often used as pawns in failed relationships. A sorry tale indeed.

As a parent of almost 2 teens, all these issues are a huge concern to me. The other day, my son was in a bad mood and asked me why stay alive when life is hard, when you can die and go to heaven and live happilly ever after? It was a hard question to answer. From a personal point of view, I had hard times as a teen and hearing him talk, reminded me that if I’d pulled the pin back then, I wouldn’t have had the joy of meeting and marrying my husband, the ups and downs of parenting and so many other triumphs. However, it’s also hard to explain that to a young person.
This is another reason why this The Blue Whale of depression and death game is so sinister, is that it targets teenagers who have always had intense, see-sawing emotions and are questioing things like life, death, suicide, suffering and lures them along this destructive path like the Pied Piper.
Thankfully, the tides of puberty change and he quite chirpy now and it’s easy to question whether the storm was even there.

Thanks for sharing your personal experience, which gives hope to those who need it. Regarding the Blue Whale, the maker says that teens who have stayed awake for more than one night are easy targets. They make the players to wake up at 4 sm to execute certain tasks. It amounts to weakening energy and morale, and catching them at their weakest moments.

That scares me even more, because I know quite a few teens who wake up during the night and play minecraft etc. The parents I know, put an end to it. We have our kids devices in our room overnight. My husband also installed a network monitoring device which can switch certain users off at a determined time. That;s been critical.
Teenagers going through growth spurts seem to need quite a lot of sleep so being deprived of sleep, would make them particularly vulnerable. I find myself constantly needing to clue myself up on such things. I am finding with my kids that I am the first responder with things flare up. It’s usually not possible to call for help either. I can’t leave them. I am managing this, but I’ve having to dig deep and hold on tight.

Well written, Reena,. What an awful thing. It’s so difficult to truly understand our children even in a loving family.

Striking the right balance between positive monitoring, and letting them be, is the most difficult part.

I’d never heard of this, but what a horrifying ‘game’ it is. Targetting vulnerable people like that. How can the people involved sleep at night? A sad tale Reena
