She was the first to walk out of the office, but knew that hundreds will soon follow. She needed to find a table in the nearest coffee shop, to work from, for at least an hour.
How she hated these mock fire drills, which were always held on the busy last day of the quarter!

The mock drill may be tiring or boring but is a must for safety of the inmates of the building. your story is a very different take on the prompt.

Thankfully, though you have to walk down the steps during the fire drill you can take the elevator back up.

It seems that is how it always works. One of life’s little frustrations I guess.

The safety guys are supposed to do it quarterly, and they wait till the last day of the quarter.
