Will the phone ring?

Cathy’s mind harked back to her college days. It was a conservative township in the 1970’s, when phone calls from boys, were looked at suspiciously, by the parents of nubile girls. It was the era before cellphones and caller ids were invented.

Cathy was often engaged by her male classmates, to dial a number, wait for the intended recipient of the call to come on line, hand over the receiver to the classmate, and ….. disappear.

The hunger for love grew unabated, as she saw her scarred reflection in the mirror. She waited every evening, for her phone to ring.
