THE QUESTION “When you learn about highly regarded artists being accused of inappropriate sexual behavior, especially with minors, can you separate the artists from their art, or would you refuse to listen to, watch, or read the artists’ works?” THE ANSWER While tracing an absconding loan defaulter, we often assume that he must have defaulted … Continue reading Fandango’s Provocative Question

This face is not the one I wore yesterday. Recast as abstraction, it chases illusions that will pilot my borrowed dreams. Today I am a galaxy of song, light, color and dance.
If I turn around
will I recollect myself
or pass myself by?

A haibun for the dVerse prompt of Mardi Gras, using synonyms for Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday words “follow” and “lead”. The collage is based on a Cajun Mardi Gras mask. I also made the haibun a quadrille of 44 words after being inspired by Jane and Merril’s use of this very short form.

The ground began to thaw and in a flash it was Spring, time to make their way into that other world, the world of Light.
I observed each day as they gingerly emerged, their fragile petals unfurling in a gift of surrender.
They had no way of knowing that change had been afoot in the world of Light as they slept safe and warm in the protective darkness.
The rules were changing, nothing was as it had been, the warmth, the cold, the light and the dark.
The Bell Jars were placed for protection before the snow fell and days later they reemerged, safe in their glass houses.
The thought occurred….. is there a Bell Jar large enough to protect our collective humanity, our all too human hearts, the world of Light we live in?

Here’s how it works:
On the first of every month, I’ll post a speculative fiction prompt from Pixabay. These images are attribution free so you can use them on your blog without worrying about copyright restrictions.
The moon glow
Eerie silence
Not a foot fall to be heard
Taking a tentative step towards
The big moon glowing, obscuring the sun
The light, not silver like moonlight, nor golden sunshine
Still shows her where to go, she steps tentatively
There is no fear in her heart, no loneliness
She may be alone but her soul is brave
She stands tall and waits for the
Unknown, in the moon glow

Parched ground. searing sun. The cacti’s collective yawn. What is a few more degrees to them? Their fibers hoard their water. Their needles guard their excess against the unwary consumer.
Why would they care about climate change?
