(Today, we have a paragraph as a prompt. Do whatever you can with it. Reflect on it, twist it, break it into pieces and use a phrase or just write if you agree/disagree or whatever you think about it. As usual, there are no restrictions on length or format. Suit yourself.)

PROMPT

“That proves you are unusual,” returned the Scarecrow; “and I am convinced that the only people worthy of consideration in this world are the unusual ones. For the common folks are like the leaves of a tree, and live and die unnoticed.”
― L. Frank Baum, The Land of Oz

strange if someone thinks

leaves live and die unnoticed

nature makes sure
you notice them
in every season
by changing their colors
they wither away
for sure
but
not before
they have served
their purpose

If you feel

I know you keep the window open for me. I would like to jump in through the window, and hold your hand. We have lived in the comfort of each other’s company for so long. I know you keep the window open for me, because the door is locked, and the Rogue Magician will not … Continue reading If you feel

Imagining Genius

Imagining Genius by VJ Knutson

VJ's avatarOne Woman's Quest

Imagine befriending genius –
accepting social awkwardness
embracing habitual quirks as
incubation for enlightenment.

If I could strip down, release
preconceived notions, agendas,
lie naked, exposed, in shallow
waters, intimately entwined,

unencumbered by sexuality
or gender protocols, I would
shake this sensual impotency –
become one with creativity.

As my father, wounded, I
am inhibited by my feminine,
opting for compliance over
strength, a conditioned identity.

His mystery extends, flawless
sculpting, archetypal secrets,
pretense proclaiming normalcy,
usurping vitality, genius stifled.

“If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.”
Emily Dickinson

She gave a final push and was rewarded as the baby flew from her womb. His tiny hands and arms, flapping like a young bird in flight, nestled in the doctors hands. She looked at his…

“They make us look good you know.”

“Who do?”

“The plain, the ordinary, the man and woman in the street. Without them, we’d just be weird. But because of them, we stand out, the eccentric beings who add a layer to life most only ever dream about or prefer to deny.”

We stopped at that comment to let it soak in and decide if we thought it reasonable or not. We looked at one another judging each other as being the unusual or just another leaf on the tree.

We didn’t think of ourselves as ‘common folk’, and we…

The scarecrow approached the little girl.

“I noticed you. That proves you are unusual,” said the Scarecrow; “and I am convinced that the only people worthy of consideration in this world are the unusual ones. For the common folks are like the leaves of a tree, and live and die unnoticed.”

The little girl blinked unknowingly, her leg was still too injured for her to move. The scarecrow stood next to her, looking down at her. It was smiling.

“You will serve a purpose in life….”

She smiled back as its smile widened.

“Yes..The purpose of filling my stomach….”
