Darkness unfurls

Hi, Sadje

Here’s a slightly different take in response to WDYS #332

Tu is jahaan se jaane laga hai
Kahin andhera sa chhaane laga hai

Aana hoga lautkar tujhe kal savere
Duniya mein kitne hain tere basere

Ek din hum bhi tere saath chalenge
Kisse-kahaniyan milkar likhenge

Dekhen ki din ke rang badalte hain kya
Yudhh ke baadal chhantte hain kya

Kisi aur ki nigaah se apna jahaan dekhen
Thaki hui nazar hai, kahaan kahaan dekhen

You are beginning to leave this world,
Darkness shamelessly begins to unfurl

Tomorrow at dawn, you must return,
Though you are home at every turn

One day let us walk together
write stories the world remembers

Let’s see if the colors of day change,
Clouds of war and hatred come unhinged

Let’s see our world from another’s eyes
Tired is our vision; let’s break through the lies

  1. Oh I love your Urdu poem dear friend. It has more impact than the English version. But love them both and appreciate the effort- because writing Roman Urdu is not an easy task. Thank you for joining in.

  2. Thank you for the translation, Reena, and I agree with Ange’s comment. Personally, I’m tired of the darkness, and hopefully someday we’ll all see the light. Brava!

  3. Thanks so much for the translation Reena – There’s a weary beauty here. It feels like a prayer for a ‘reset’ asking for the ability to look at a scarred world with fresh, untainted vision 🩷
