I downloaded an antivirus program called Avast by accident, and it wreaked havoc with my laptop. A professional helped me delete that and restore the data on the computer.
My Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phone got formatted several times, and I’ve sworn never to repurchase the brand, despite the comfort of a stylus pen that comes with it.
I exercise some basic hygiene to avoid trouble.
- The email address used for financial transactions is not used for any other purpose.
- I delete unused apps on the phone and download them again if needed. Apps steal a lot of data from your phone.
- Images of identity documents or the signature are never stored in the phone’s Gallery. All SMS messages from the bank are deleted after I see them. Apps tend to access data from SMS and the Gallery.
- My website designer used AnyDesk for remote access to my browser, but I deleted it afterwards. I created the author’s website on Wix and have managed it without help so far.

It’s crucial to implement a plan to protect your computer / phone from people trying to access your personal or financial data and you seem like you have a good handle on this, Reena.
