To Each Their Own

How often have I envied
an artist, poet, writer
wishing I could do
what they appear
to exclusively know.

But then I probe,
disentangle thought
find inner worlds
unschooled, distraught
processed differently
expressed untwirled

My words carry
my pulse, my hue;
and so do theirs
short or long
each voice unique
a sovereign song.

styles can be compared
techniques admired
but never the flame
The spirit’s fire burns
in its own name.

      1. I’m not a fan of how Substack works. They also try an toss stuff my way that I didn’t ask for. I have an account that I don’t do anything with… just to comment for some friends who do have it. For all ‘its’ faults… WP works – well, for the most part anyway.
