The Hatchet Guy

Trimming the fat needs mercilessness.

He recited the mantra as he erased names from the chart, each deletion a silent goodbye, executed with clinical efficiency.

The office was perceived as an obese comfort zone, and the new management did not view loyalty as productive.

The desks stood stripped and mute, silence reigning in corners where conversations had once boomed.

Yet on Monday, the air was brisk – tension disguised as focus, and fear as a willingness to follow new rules.

The hatchet guy sipped his coffee, wondering if anyone could tell that the next name to vanish might be his own.

    Sometimes smart people can be stupid.

    (of course, this runs the risk of being incorrect due to holding on to an old (and therefore) outdated paradigm

    As a young person I had no problem imagining change… what I did totally was underestimate the rate/pace of change! lol damn

    1. Thank you, Chris! The industry has changed from the times we walked in corporate corridors. I’ve heard of algorithm-based retrenchment. The algo decides which employees are not a good fit.
