I miss Mom more than ever as I walk through Sakura-laden sidewalks. The extended cherry blossom season has brought in a fresh wave of tourists, and visitors in outfits from different countries liven up the landscape further.
I stopped to see a girl child in a wheelchair. Her expression sharply contrasted with her mother’s morose expression as she carefully navigated the wheelchair through the crowds. I wish I could pass on some of my mother’s enthusiasm for Sakura to her.
The girl pulls out a box of Indian sweets and offers it to me. I extend my hand with a smile, but the box has a surprise pop-up toy inside. Her mother bursts out laughing as I pat the girl’s cheeks.
a child’s spirit blooms
under the cool shade of love
enthusiasm cheers
The Haibun is an extension of a translated story – March, Mom and Sakura

What a sweet haibun, Reena! I enjoyed that.
