Somebody rushes in with a form to be filled as my mother’s body is wheeled into a mortuary, “What was the cause of death?”
I am quick to respond, “Organ failure.”
Having heard countless harrowing tales of organ trade and the exploitation of the deceased for financial gain, the issue hits close to home.
The organs of the deceased, often referred to as the ‘spare parts of human machines ‘, can be vital for someone’s survival. However, it’s crucial to remember that these ‘spare parts’ are not commodities but part of a person’s body, and their consent is necessary for any form of organ donation.
I am painfully aware of the patient waiting with money to buy life….if only there were a way to connect directly, I would have gladly donated it for free.

It’s the reason buying organs is supposed to be illegal here. Donation only is the rule.
As for my parts, they may have them if they’re of any use by then.

Donation only is the right rule. Thank you, Mimi!

Yes. The bereaved family is advised to check the body for cuts or stitches after getting it from the morgue.

Scary business this! A life hanging in the balance and yet dependent on the death, as well as the kindness, of a stranger. Brilliant take!

ayiiee such a painful, near-inevitable life situation… like we don’t already have enough.
Sixes like yours this week are a benefit and a good thing to put into ‘the universe’.
That even one Reader encounters it and can identify with the feelings (of the protagonist) then the world is, to a small, but measurable degree better than had you not written it.

A writer’s job is to make readers see the hitherto unseen, or the known in a visible light.
