fantasy appeals
works of fiction
not remotely connected to real
with no reflections from my life
or yours or anyone else
to provoke them, instigate them
or just stoke macabre imagination
Story, keep a safe distance;
Do not project into my life
let me enjoy your existence
Give me a glimpse of the possible
to dream of
though I know well-
this will never happen
in waking moments;
nor should it be allowed to
destroy my zone of peace

Our love affair with books.๐

This is a great poem. We always project a part of ourselves into the pieces we write, donโt we? I believe that separating the art from the artist (regardless of if youโre using fantasy or some other theme) is a huge accomplishment though. Itโs hard but achievable.

It takes effort to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Listening to more and more real person stories makes a difference.

Reena, you present a realistic and sincere essay on the dangers of getting lost in fantasy in mixed media. It’s dangerous, alluring, and easy to get trapped there.
Story, keep a safe distance;
I just finished watching a netflix mini-series, “Alias Grace,” based on a novel by Margaret Atwood. The MC struggles with it, among many other things.

After seeing the series I know I will read the book at some point. It’s like a Rosetta Stone for patriarchy and what it visits upon women.
