“Damn it,” she thought, as the heel on her shoe snapped clean off the sole. She had forgotten to keep an alternate pair in the car.
She walked barefoot with difficulty till she found a shoe shop. The new pair she chose was flat and did not exactly match her outfit, but she couldn’t attend an interview without shoes.
She mumbled an apology for being late. The receptionist led her to the conference room, and whispered on the way,
“We have a policy on female employees wearing heels here. Good luck.”
Ten minutes later, she was in an intense discussion with the panel on Diversity and Inclusion.
“Well, if I drive the D&I initiative, I’d not hold any bias against gender, color, nationality or choice of footwear.”
They all burst out laughing, and the ice broke.
“And we know why …”
It was the beginning of a great bonding with a professional team and a sparkling phase of her career.
