International Peace and Love Day

Nature divided the world into continents. There are oceans, forests and deserts that separate regions and inhabitants from one another.

It’s no wonder we created communities, then kingdoms and nations and the so-called United Nations. No wonder that many of them are at war with each other due to insecurity or a desire for more. Animals in the forest do it. Don’t they? Why and how could humans be different?

Except for the belief that we think we are different…….

I guess, boundaries are to be respected since nature intended it that way. But if we take pride in being human, we need to make an effort to understand the unfamiliar. We explore oceanic depths. We cut through the skies in our manufactured flying machines.

And then, we destroy the forests because we need their resources. We dump our waste into waters, because we need to clean up our terrestrial space.

Let’s focus on human societies and relationships.

Peace and love will prevail – only if

  • We respect personal boundaries set by others
  • We do not impose our beliefs and selfish interests as boundaries for others
  • We resist the need to interfere, criticize or give unsolicited advice.

Love can never be unconditional, if it threatens physical, mental or emotional well-being of one or some of the parties.

Peace manifests in the external world, only when people are at peace with themselves.

Do we need to turn inwards, before we try to change the world?

  1. It is absolutely impossible for us to have peace in the world today as man is much too competitive. Good people will want to have peace, but they cannot convince everybody else to live that way. Throughout the history of humanity there has always been war and that has become part of who we are.

    1. The minimum effort we can make is to draw peace in our personal lives – not so easy though.

Being alone helps at times to avoid friction, as pointed out by another writer in a piece on my prompt.
