Alternatives ….by Melissa Lemay

Read me like a book
Bending open my flat spine
Preserve my pages
Or dog ear random corners
Peruse at nightfall
Reading by soft lantern light
Or read in the park
Lying in the grass sunlit
I’ve no dust jacket
Breathe into me your laughter
Read through unceasing
Or leisurely taking breaks
Place with care to pause
I am words long lingering
You remember me
There I am if you forget
Your favorite book
Return to me forever
Putting me on a shelf not
A chōka, written for Reena’s Xploration Challenge about alternatives.
