A Question Dropped

A question 
dropped in the middle
of the discussion 
left the room stunned

They sat in a circle 
wide eyed; astonished 
forced to acknowledge 
the elephant in the room 

An imposing creature
impossible to ignore 
an hour wasted in 
an intellectual diatribe 

While pragmatism 
glared scorchingly 
in ruthless silence 
at the gathering

I’ve tried to remain vague on purpose about what the question is, it can be anything you want it to be. I did not want to break the image of a colorful gathering staring at a black question mark, but this is my attempt to explain it.
