She was one of many people walking down the rose-edged path.
She was surrounded by conversations, but had no communication
with anybody. Nobody paid the slightest attention to her.

When she got home, she purposely misquoted Wordsworth in her journal:
“I wandered lonely in a crowd….and I’ve never had such a feeling of isolation.”
