strange smells
of turmeric and honey
on my face
make me think
cosmetic fragrance
has no place
glistening skin
of the seller
promises more
than a sleekly designed case
raw appeal
of freshness
against
packaged hopes
with an expiry date
wins hands down
I choose organic beauty
over a ‘fixed’ face
mango leaves and marigold
entwined festive spirits
earthen oil lamps
replace electric magnificence
I love chocolates
but am sold on
home-made stuff
to sweeten
celebrations
Goddess Laxmi
looks happier
in imperfect idols
than digital displays
the little girl
with crooked teeth
smiles her way
into my
Diwali shopping wallet
HimReena! Very wonderful work! Honest expression shared openly. I am having an existential crisis tonight. I invite you to come visit me, cross my bridge of dreams, and listen to Joni sing like an angel!

I love this… we just have to get close to the real… this is a real experience compared to a supermarket.

Smiling I am…..remember our walk through Little India in Singapore, during the festival of Diwali. The intense colors of the marigolds….and we stopped at a cardtable where two young women put lovely henna designs on my hands. 🙂 Thank you for the memories!
Plus, I love the detail of the little girl here.

Thank you, Lillian! Rangoli (floor decoration) colors, paper lanterns, colorful clothes and traditional jewellery are all left out from this piece.

Fasination montage of the market. Loved the contrast of Laxmi — a perfect digital image vs imperfect statue. Which picture of Lakshmi does Vishnu keep on his shelf?
