Blind Shrike ………… by Jade Li
Loggerhead Shrike by Carol Allen Anfinsen
Axe’s bleeding edge
Raised o’er outstretched necks
To strike.
Gene-spliced monsters fledge
As architects pledge
“Safe-like.”
Evolution sledged
On extinction’s ledge
Blind shrike.
A Butcher Bird, or Shrike is a predatory songbird, fearless and bold. It is a ferocious killer that will impale its victims.
This lai form poem (please see here and here for more information on the form) is written for Reena’s Exploration Challenge, whose prompt this week is BLEEDING EDGE, defined as the very forefront of technological development, as well as being an entry for this month’s lai form challenge at dVerse.
