The Chair

She heard the pitter-patter of raindrops and the gusty winds from here. The warmth of the sun chose to caress her gently at times, and compelled her to move inside at others.

She also knew about the budding romance between teenage neighbors, and the family often teased her – that much more than the fragrance of roses reached her from the garden, and wet soil.

How she loved this chair, and how desolate did it look today! It was Gran’s only link to the outside world, after she lost the power to walk. The garden will await her benign companionship, hereafter.
