I’m seen as strong
but being blamed
emotionally abused
for being myself
breaks me silently
I am wilful
I am defiant
it has been induced
by the battles I fought
to just be myself
Incompatibility
is not criminal
you are to be blamed
as much as I
for being different
Forgiveness
happens when something
is firmly put in the past
I cannot forgive – bogged by
recurring deposits of pain
Recurring deposits

Sometimes forgiveness is not warranted depending on what the offense was, and specifically if there was never any remorse to begin with. I found so much strength in this piece even with the barrage of pain endured. Thank you for sharing, Reena.

Nevertheless, I am sorry about that. The previous comments I answered were all from her.

Hard to stand up to repeated belittling…you are correct to defend who you are, your right to be you. (K)

Reena, I very much like your poem and your outlook on forgiveness as being something that is firmly put in the past.

It depends on what follows the act, or when one is out of the offender’s orbit.

Impossible to forgive a recurring offense. Well said.

A situation that requires you forgive over and over, may not be a good place to be, and also may not be, for one reason or another, an easy situation from which to extricate one’s self. A genuine apology, in my opinion Reena, must include a component of sincere remorse, coupled with a true effort not to repeat the offense again. The apology is it there to get the offender off the hook, it’s to provide the offended party the chance to reclaim dignity – but also provide the confidence for the offended party that they will not suffer the same offense a gain.

Worse still is a situation, where both parties get into revenge mode, and think that each attack is justified.

I agree that there should be no blame for incompatibility, and wish the stigma of failure would be removed from it as well.
