The tragic accident had ended two young lives. Worse than that, the old mother was left with a six-year old grandchild, and no breadwinner in the family. I referred them to a NGO which could help.
Both returned home in a devastated state.
“How could you do that to us? We cannot be in a place with monstrous helpers. Their idols are placed in the lobby outside … probably evil spirits lurking around ….”
Having come from a village in Western India, they had no exposure to Halloween or related rituals. They felt they had erroneously entered a tantric’s abode.

A thought provoking piece indeed.

These kind of toys are sometimes hung outside houses – to prevent the evil eye. Halloween has caught up, but only in the urban areas.
