Cravings

I screamed for ice cream in childhood, at the first sight of the ice cream vendor. Indulgent arms picked me up, and fed me with the choicest flavors. They took delight in the act much more than I did in slurping down the delectable stuff.

I do not recall when those urges turned into irresistible cravings. The same people viewed my expanding girth with horrified eyes, and wanted me to lose weight. I did spend time in the gym, and cut down on tasteless calories. However, what I really longed for, was being hauled in the same loving arms and watch the same look of adoration in their eyes.  I wished I was complimented for some other trait or achievement, than eating cabbage and broccoli.

It did not happen. I had grown up, but my deepest self still longed for unconditional acceptance.
