Walking Away

“No exit” flashed the sign on the inner side of the entrance door. Her phone beeped again. Adam was getting impatient waiting for her in the car, and she was yet trying to figure out an exit route from the mall. Her hands ached with the weight of the bags she was carrying, and she felt a wee bit dizzy on wobbly legs.

“Lady, can I help you?”

She found strong arms preventing her fall. She looked up to meet the gaze. Her emotions for this person had moved from love to hatred and then, indifference. She wondered how minor attachments turn into major heartbreaks in youth.

“No, thanks! I outgrew that need long back.”

He shrugged and left. The brute had failed to recognize her.
