Specialization has its own advantages. But the lack of a SPOC (Single Point of Control) in most organizations delays actions that require a quick response. “Shall check with the concerned, and revert back to you” is the commonest reply. I have received vague replies at EOD or after, to a query raised in the morning, and action was needed during the day.
Digital bridges exist, but a reluctance to take decisions renders those ineffective. Organizations will not develop generalists. Widening of knowledge needs a personal initiative. A seeker of personal development does it, and then continues to search for an integrated platform for application. The probability is that one will switch platforms, and cater to different target segments.
