“This is the skeleton of a reptile excavated by archaelogists,” explained the zoology teacher, “the mystery that remains unresolved is the functions of its odd-shaped mouth.”
“A mouth is used to catch the prey, clean, sense the way ahead, bite or eat,” opined a Smart Alec student, “reptiles are not known to ruminate.”
“Power of speech is needed to hurt or humiliate others, as we humans often do. Thankfully, the reptiles just let others be.”

Clever retort, to point out that the snake lacks the thing that enables the Smart Alec student to be a jerk — nicely done!

From a skeleton comes the knowledge of life. But then again there is a smart Alec in every class.
