Rainy nights, waterlogging and traffic jams …. a lethal combination, but the monsoon is so incomplete without it.
It was on one of those evenings, when we decided to take a diversion, and drive on the captive road for BPCL (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.). A friend had given me the right passwords to pass through the checkpoints.
I was terrified to see a woman in white, waving out for help. Who wears white in the Bombay rains? Is it a ghost? I slowed down, weary of stopping.
“I need the password to get through the next gate. Can you help?”

Intriguing..it certainly has me wondering what’s going on!

Hmmmm…sounds quite a bit like the tale of Cemetery Mary in Chicago. Asks for a ride to a cemetery, then when the ride drops her off, she walks away and disappears. Well done for capturing that essence! 🙂

This tale is based on a real story, and is close to Cemetery Mary https://reinventionsreena.wordpress.com/2017/02/18/thane-creek-bridge/

I wonder if she’ll help and why the woman needed the password so badly. Whether she’s up to no good or not. Intriguing tale

I think she is right to be wary. I usually find it pays to trust your gut.
This was well written and you evoked that sense of eerie really well.
Hope you have a great week.

A captive road with passwords……what are they trying to hide? Great story. :o)

Nothing. This road exists, and is meant only for the truckloads of material that the company moves. In times of traffic jams, others try to take advantage of the faster movement here, and find ways of driving through it.

Maybe she could just “haunt” the car long enough to get through.

That’s a good idea to power a car…

It’s good to know that even ghosts are held to ransom by passwords. That’s evolution for you. In the old days we simply tied garlic to the door.

Is she really a ghost? Or is it a fear or assumption?

Really? The woman could have been a trespasser, just like him, who forgot the stolen passwords.

Wow, that’s scary. One has to wonder how long the mystery lady in white has been there waiting, and hoping.
