Shiva

Shiva’s mother remembered that ominous moment of his christening, which had almost sealed his fate.

Mythology says that the ocean was churned by the Gods and Demons, to extract ‘Amrit’, the nectar that guaranteed eternal life, but the process also brought a deadly poison to the surface. Lord Shiva swallowed the poison to save the world, and the Amrit was distributed amongst the gods, after some political manipulation to save it from the demons.

The news of her soldier son’s death on the country border shook her up, but the brave mother was unshakeable, when she received the posthumous Bravery Award from the President.

She watched the television screen blankly, as the news reporter said, “The two countries would soon sign a peace treaty, and the President’s name is being recommended for the Nobel Prize for International Peace.” The core of her existence, which believed that her son had sacrificed his life for a noble cause, was shaking up.

  1. The ultimate sacrifice – taking poison so others can live or taking a bullet for your country. Very powerful story woven in a timeless manner.
