The cat’s out

You walked all over me

in your rush to fame

and I put up a brave face

playing an ace game.

I supported all that you did

image projections and fake acts.

Inside the bags of my mind

lay safe all your cats.

We got rave reviews

with my mask of the mature wife

The woman behind the man’s success

was to cry silently all her life.

Redirecting the inner strength

took me to paths unknown

where my talent was acknowledged

and only my star shone.

Why could you not be the man

behind the woman, with some lag?

Multiple masks kept dropping off

as the cats ran out of the bag.

  1. The journey from “to cry silently all her life” to “only my star alone” is empowering. Sometimes we need to shed past shackles, even though we yearn that it could have worked out differently.
